As part of a larger personal project and exploration on Judaism and Hasidism in New York City, This mini series documents the Jewish festival Purim, which was featured and commissioned by the New York Times for the Album in the Metropolitan section.
The festival of Purim celebrates the Jewish community’s survival over an ancient Persian extermination plot. Told through the Book of Esther, or the Megillah in Hebrew, the story involves a young woman named Esther who becomes a Persian king’s wife to thwart a plan against the Jewish people. Hailed as a hero of the community, Esther and her story are celebrated each year.
